Director and actor Ashkan Sadeqi has adapted the story with playwright and director Elham Shakib based on musical scores of the smash hit musical spectacle “Notre Dame de Paris” performed by a French Canadian group in 1998.
It is the story of a hunchback, Quasimodo, the bell ringer at Notre Dame Cathedral, who falls in love with a gypsy woman, Esmeralda, while they are challenged by the evil Frollo, archdeacon of Notre Dame.
Sadeqi plays the role of hunchback and Raysa Avanesian is Esmeralda. Other cast members are Hesamoddin Mokhtari, Mahbod Qena’atpisheh, Nima Bakhtiari and Matin Kakavand, Tiwall reported.
Sadeqi and Anita Qalichi have translated the original French songs of lyricist Luc Plamondon into Persian for the play.
The original show has been translated into seven languages and performed in 17 countries including Belgium, China, France, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Russia, Singapore, Turkey and the UK.
French novelist Victor Hugo (1802-1885) published the book in 1831. Since then it has been translated into many languages and adapted in TV series, comic strips, animations and films. The venue is located at No. 292, South Palestine St., Enqelab Ave.
