Directed by actor and theater director Saeed Dakh, the play is a modern approach to the old fairy tale, where the world famous story occurs in current times.
The Cinderella story has been told and retold in various versions across continents. The most popular was written in French by famous fairy tale author Charles Perrault in 1697. The popularity of his tale was due largely to the addition of fantasy elements including the magical pumpkin, the fairy godmother and glass slippers.
Cinderella lives with her wicked stepmother and two jealous stepsisters who keep her enslaved and in rags. One day in the land where they live, the prince invites all the young ladies to a royal ball, planning to choose a wife.
But Cinderella has no chance of attending due to her enslavement. Then her fairy godmother appears and magically transforms her from a house servant to a young and elegant lady and takes her to the ball.
Cinderella enchants the handsome ‘Prince Charming’ at the ball, but must face the wrath of the enraged stepmother and sisters when the spell wears off at midnight.
In 1950 the animation company Walt Disney, made Perrault’s story into a popular animated movie. The story has continued to be adapted into several films, operas and plays.
A total of 18 actors will perform in Dakh’s play. The venue is located at No. 544, between Sarparast and Fariman streets, Taleqani Sreet, Palestine Square.
