Iranian director Mikail Shahrestani plans to stage reading performances of prominent Russian playwright Anton Chekhov’s 1898 play “Uncle Vanya” at Tehran’s Resaneh Cultural Center on November 25 and December 2.
The performances will be held by a cast composed of Manuchehr Valizadeh, Alieh Sharifi, Monir Mandani and Bahador Bastan.
“Uncle Vanya” is about Vanya, who has worked on his late sister’s farm and sent the farm’s proceeds to the professor, his sister’s husband, while receiving only a small salary for himself.
The professor has recently returned to the farm with his beautiful young wife, Yelena, and plans to sell the farm to obtain a higher income for himself and his new wife.
