Cinema
-Directed by Saeed Roustaee the Iranian 2019 movie "Just 6.5" is scheduled to compete in the category of the best foreign film of French Cesar Awards 2020.
-The 40th edition of the Fajr Film Festival, Iran’s most important film event, announced the jury for its official competition on Thursday.The jury includes director Masud Jafari Jozaniactor, actor Shahab Hosseini, director Mohammad-Ali Basheh Ahangar, writer Mehdi Sajjadechi, cinematographer Mohammad Davudi, composer Majid Entezami and critic and producer Pejman Lashkaripur.
-The organizers announced that the 40th Fajr Festival would pay tribute to a number of filmmakers who deid from COVID-19, fro, Khosro Sinai, Akbar Alemi, Kambozia Partovi, Rahim Rahimipur and Fereshteh Taerpur.
-The movie "Apple Day" directed by Mahmoud Ghaffari and produced by Elahe Nobakht will be screened in its first international screening on Monday, February 14, 2022 at the Berlin Film Festival.
-Iran’s cinema managed to win three awards in the 20th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh. In the Women Film Maker’s section, the best feature film award was accorded to Maryam Bahrololumi, the best documentary to “Holy Bread”, and best actress award to Sousan Parvar.
-The Iranian short films "Aparat" written and directed by Hassan Najmabadi, "Mask" by Saba Ghasemi, and Ziba Arjang's short animation “Sky Sun, Tile Sun” entered the competition section of the 16th Los Angeles International Children's Festival.
-Iranian critic Hamed Soleimanzadeh has been selected for the FIPRESCI jury at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival - Berlinale.
- The US Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) has announced a famous Iranian sound designer, Mohammadreza Delpak, as one of the nominees for the 69th Golden Reels Awards in March.
-The animated short film, ‘The Statue,’ has been selected to compete in the second edition of the Khamrubu International Short Film Festival in India.
-Iranian short film “Bubble” won three main awards from Artisan International Film Festival.Directed by Iranian helmer Mahmood Arib, “Bubble” won the special mention of the jury, the best writer and the best design awards.
-Iranian feature film “Ballad of a White Cow” directed by Behtash Sanaeeha and Maryam Moghaddam will go on silver screen at cinema theaters across Germany and Austria from February 3, 2022. Meanwhile, this film will also go on silver screen at cinema theaters across Sweden, Japan, Portugal, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Balkan countries in January and February 2022.
-Iranian feature film “The Wasteland” directed by Ahmad Bahrami won Norwegian Peace Film Award at the 32nd edition of the Tromsø International Film Festival.
Fashion
-The 38th meeting of the Policy Council of the Fashion and Clothing Organizing Working Group was held in the assembly hall of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
Visual Arts
-Two Iranian mentally or physically handicapped women, Marzieh Hooshmand and Mehrnaz Bahrami, have received awards at the 2021 World Paralymart Festival of Japan.
-Fans watched from their homes as artist Hassan Ruholamin created his new work on the birth of Hazrat Fatima (SA) in a program live-streamed online on his Instagram.The untitled work created over two consecutive days, was unveiled by Ruholamin on Sunday to celebrate the birthday of the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad (S).
-A collection of the Reverse Glass Painting works, with the theme of “Nature” by 18 artists are on display at the exhibition, from January 22 to February 3.
-The closing ceremony of the 1400 National Glass Design Event ended with the introduction of the top three works.
-Last week, Tehran galleries hosted 25 new exhibitions in various fields of visual arts.
Theater
-The play "The Moon rides the Old Horse" written by Ayub Agakhani and the work of Mohammad Abdolhadi, played by Agakhani, has been on stage since January 13 in Hall No. 1 of the Mehregan Theater.
-The nominees for the playwriting competition of the 40th Fajr International Theater Festival were announced by the judges of this section, consisting of Simin Amirian, Roozbeh Hosseini and Jamshid Khanian. From the 323 works submitted to the Secretariat, the jury selected 6 plays as nominees for the award.
-German dramatist Georg Buchner’s play “Woyzeck” is currently on stage at the Orkideh Hall of Tehran’s Shahrzad Theater Complex.
-The shows of different sections of the 40th Fadjr Theater Festival will be performed in 10 halls.Vahdat Hall, City Theater Complex (main hall, Charso, Sayeh, Qashqaei hall), Iranshahr Theater Complex (Samandarian Hall and Nazerzadeh Kermani Hall), Rumi Main Hall of Molavi Theater Complex and Hafez Hall are some of the centers dedicated to the festival performances.
-The show "I Wanted to Be a Horse" directed by Abbas Ghaffari has a special performance for Saturday, January 29. Students can purchase ticket with a 50% discount by presenting their valid student card on Saturday.
Music
-The 37th edition of the Fajr Music Festival will totally be held in person. Several groups from neighboring countries will give performances at the festival, which will be organized from February 11 to 15. Performances in the pop category will begin two days sooner and winners will be honored on February 18.
-Vahdat Hall was the venue for a spectacular array of iconic live music concert on Tuesday by Salar Aghili.
-The match between the national football teams of Iran and Iraq in Azadi Tower and its open space was broadcast live for the fans and after that, the celebration of qualifying for the World Cup was held. The program was organized by the Roudaki Cultural and Artistic Foundation, and the wind instrument orchestra led by Sina Zakaiee performed national pieces. The congratulatory message of Iran's national team to the World Cup in Qatar was also engraved on the Azadi Tower in the form of video maping.
-The Roudaki Foundation Art Training Center, in cooperation with the Raz Art and Cultural Institute of Shiraz, is holding an art master class from February 20 to March 27.
-Niavaran Cultural Center hosed a memorial service to Iranian composer and musician Ebrahim Esbat.
Culture and Literature
-The Italian Embassy in Tehran held on Monday, at the residence of Ambassador Giuseppe Perrone, a reading event with the Italian magazine “Internazionale” and the Iranian “Na Dastan”. The event featured short stories of Iranian contemporary literature published in the latest issue of Internazionale magazine.
-An English translation of the Iranian story “In the Meadow of Fantasies” has been selected as one of the five Batchelder Honor Books. The books are chosen on the sidelines of the 2022 Mildred L. Batchelder Award by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA).
-“The Conquest of Bread”, an 1892 book by the Russian anarcho-communist Peter Kropotkin, has been published in Persian. Afkar is the publisher of the book translated by Reza Eskandari.
-Due to the pandemic, Iran canceled its 2020 edition of the book fair and the 2021 edition was organized online. Over 2100 Iranian and foreign publishers are offering over 200,000 titles at this year’s exhibition
-“Lord Foul’s Bane”, the first book from American writer Stephen R. Donaldson’s series “The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever”, has been published in Persian. Mahan Sayyarmanesh is the translator of the book published by Ketabsara-ye Tandis.
-The program to commemorate the Persian poet Nezami Ganjavi, which has been set up as a hybrid event with virtual and live meetings, will begin on Esfand 21 in the Iranian calendar year (March 12), which is celebrated by Iran as Nezami Day every year.
- Palestinian-Icelandic writer Mazen Maarouf’s book “Jokes for the Gunmen” has been published in Persian by Qoqnus in Tehran. Mansureh Ahmadi-Jafari is the translator of the book originally published by Paperback in 2015. The book has been translated into English by Jonathan Wright.
Architecture
-Iran and Italy will hold an exhibition entitled “Domus Design” during Iranian New Year Nowruz which starts on March 21, 2022.
-The selected and worthy works of the fourth round of the student competition of the Asian Young Designer Award in Iran were introduced with the theme of "strengthening empathy through design".
-"Ivan Ayneh" exhibition, including the works of artists of the Young Architects Club of the Islamic Architecture Center of Hozeh Honari, was opened in the gallery of the House of Photographers.
