Riahi’s ‘Driving Lessons’ won the best short film at the 22nd edition of the Religion Today Film Festival in Trento, Italy; the best non-Irish short award at the Dublin Feminist Film Festival in Ireland; the Golden Apricot for best short film at the 16th Golden Apricot International Film Festival in Yerevan, Armenia; the Special Jury Award at the 13th Film Festival for Women’s Rights in South Korea; and best short drama at the 13th edition of the ‘I Will Tell International Film Festival’ in London.
The Iranian filmmaker also evaluated films in several international and national festivals, including the 21st Kolkata International Film Festival in India, the 10th Third Eye Asian Film Festival in India, and the Seventh Iran International Documentary Film Festival, known as Cinéma Vérité.
According to the festival’s website, Asiatica was created in 2000 to establish an original channel of communication between Italy and Asia. Open to changes and new opportunities of confrontation between cultures, the cultural Association Mnemosyne realized this idea, finding in movies the ideal medium to further develop a relationship between Western and Eastern countries.
