The best long animation award of Palm Springs International Animation Festival (PSIAF) went to Release from heaven directed by Ali Noori Oskouei.
Set in a war torn city, ‘Release from Heaven’ tells the story of Sareh, a school teacher and a writer. Every night, she tells stories to her students who find solace in them. But when the school is attacked and destroyed she sets out on a journey with two of her students to help them find their parents. During their quest, she starts to realize that the hero of her stories might be real.
PSIAF, which was established in 2017 to experience its first ever edition in sunny Palm Springs, California, aims to screen amazing animated films from all over the world and create a fun family event including a local animation competition.
The festival, held from 9 November - 11 November 2017, included more than 250 short and 6 feature-length animated films from over 103 countries.
